His primary research interest is forest history and historical ecology. His expertise is in the analysis of historical records of forest use across a broad range of sources (including historical maps, ethnographic records and forest company records) and covering a time period of up to 500 years. He also on longer time perspectives by using dendrochronology to date human activities (forest fires and specifically culturally modified trees; CMT’s) in forests across Scandinavia (and also in western North America).
